A Cadillac VIN decoder is a tool that lets you take the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) from a Cadillac and break it down into useful details about the car. Every VIN is a 17 character code made up of letters and numbers, and each section of that code represents something specific, like the model year, where it was built, the engine type, trim level, and even safety features.
For example, if you punch a Cadillac VIN into a decoder, you can usually see whether the car has a V6 or V8 engine, if it’s a luxury or performance trim, and where it rolled off the assembly line. It’s especially handy if you’re buying a used Cadillac, since it helps confirm the exact specifications match what’s being advertised. Some VIN decoders also connect to larger databases so you can check for recalls, accident history, or past ownership records.
Cadillac option codes, also called RPO codes (Regular Production Option codes), are short three character combinations of letters and numbers that GM uses to identify every single feature that went into a car when it was built. Think of them like the factory’s shorthand.
For example, there’s an RPO code for your paint color, your transmission, your wheels, your interior trim, even for small details like whether the car came with heated seats, navigation, or a towing package. They’re not just for fancy add ons; even “standard” features get a code.
On older Cadillacs you’ll usually find a sticker (often in the glovebox, trunk, or door jamb) listing all those codes. On newer models, Cadillac moved to a QR code on the driver’s side door pillar; scanning it brings up the whole build sheet with every RPO code.
Why does it matter?
If you’re buying a used Cadillac, the option code list tells you exactly what the car came with from the factory.
If you’re ordering parts or accessories, having the right codes makes sure you get a perfect fit.
Enthusiasts and collectors also use them to verify rare trims, engines, or special packages.
In short: a Cadillac “option code list” is the factory recipe for your specific car.
